Microsoft Techready 19 – Rube Goldberg Machine: Boot

Microsoft_Rube Goldber Boot Diagram

1STORY: I spent last week working with Toy Robot Media on a Zed Ink gig for the Microsoft“TECHREADY 19” event in Seattle, Washington. I had the most amazing time working with some very talented artist who really brought out the best in me.

Using the story boards provide by Mike Moore along with a fast and loose art direction regarding the animation and timing, I created the assets and animated this portion of one openers.

Check out the boards and video below.

TOOLS: Illustrator CC 2014, Cinema 4D r15

“A Rube Goldberg machine is a contraption, invention, device or apparatus that is deliberately over-engineered or overdone to perform a very simple task in a very complicated fashion, usually including a chain reaction. The expression is named after American cartoonist and inventor Rube Goldberg (1883–1970).”

CLOSING THOUGHTS: It was really interesting working in a 3D package just to produce a very 2D look. I really enjoyed this technique because even though the final result looks 2D, I can still do different versions and angles because of the nature of 3D!

What up! Jet Olaño here, check it out…this is my “Online Art Journal”,  which is just a cool way of saying my “lame ass art blog”. Anyway, this is not meant to show off my professional work, advertise or sway anyone’s mind. This is merely “…a place for my thoughts that come and go like the wind.” (That was an in joke) If there is anything on this page that strikes your fancy or if I’ve struck a nerve or if I’ve misspelled anything (which I’m prone to do because I usually work on this thing very late at night…I am also prone to parentheticals but I can cus it’s my damn blog! Er, I mean “Online Art Journal”) please leave a comment. All comments and critiques are welcome as long as they are constructive, any trolling will be deleted and punch you in your spleen through the internet.  Thanks for stopping by and thanks for shopping at your “One Stop Chop Shop!”
